Dear PP Experts,
Need your Expert Advice and Opinion on Completely Deactivating MRP at Plant Level
Business Requirement:
Need to Completely Deactivate MRP and Prevent Procurement Proposals to be created on the Distribution Centers and Service Plants.
Business Scenario:
- In Our Current Setup we have Manufacturing Plants, Distribution Centers (Also Configured as Plants) and Service Plants. Distribution Centers stock Spare Parts and Distribute it to another Distribution Center, Manufacturing Plant or to a Service Plant. Manufacturing Plant Produces and Sells Finished Goods while Service Plants are mainly for conducting Repair activities.
- The Spare Parts and Repair parts at the Distribution Centers/Service Plants are Planned through an External System and not through SAP MRP.
- External System Plans for the Safety Stock and also the additional demand for these spare parts and Creates Purchase Requisitions in SAP for these Spare Parts.
- Stock transfer Orders (STO)/Intercompany Transfer Orders (ICTOs) would be created in SAP from Service Plants to the Manufacturing Plants through the Conversion of the Stock transfer Purchase Requisitions created from the External system.
- Manual STO/ICTO could also be created from Manufacturing Plants to the Distribution Centers. However this demand would be planned by the External system.
Problem Description:
- Material Masters in Service Plants and Distribution Centers are setup with MRP Type that is relevant for MRP Planning. Also MRP Configuration is active for these Plants.
- When running MD02 transaction for a Semifinished/Finished Material at the manufacturing Plant, MRP is automatically planning the Materials at the Distribution Centers/Service Plants when there is STO/ICTO for the Material from the Manufacturing Plant to the Distribution Center.
- Procurement Proposals (PurReqs) generated at the Distribution Centers/Service Plants by MRP is not desirable as the Safety Stock and the Other Demand is planned by the External system and Create Duplicate Supply.
- The Ultimate goal is to prevent MRP from generating Procurement Proposal at the Distribution Center/Service Plants
Solution Evaluation:
We have tried modifying the MRP Type of the materials in the Service Plants/Distribution Centers to “ND” and MRP is not creating procurement proposals. However there are thousands of Materials to be updated and also we have interfaces with GATP. Modifying materials in mass could trigger the change logs and this could create a huge Load on the CIF Batch Jobs. Also tried Deactivating the MRP at Plant level (Tcode: OMDU) but still MRP is creating Procurement proposals when running MD02 transaction.
Please let me know if you have come across such situation and what is the best way to handle this. Can we try to implement user Exits or BADI to overcome this issue or is it too risky to try them for this issue ?.Would any Configuration change help prevent the Procurement Proposals at the Distribution Centers ?
Theoretically speaking I know that the best way is always through a Master Data Change followed by Configuration followed by Program Change (BADI/User Exit/Custom Program etc.,) but I would like to get your opinion on this. Please provide your inputs.
